Are you struggling to find a writing routine that works for you? If you’re a writer trying to maintain a consistent writing schedule despite constant interruptions and deflated motivation, this is the course for you!
This mini-course will help writers establish and commit to a writing routine that will fit their specific lifestyle so they can finish the writing project of their dreams.
A while back I was a writer on the verge of giving up my dream (again!). I was a new mom and I couldn’t figure out how to fit writing into a life that was jam-packed with cooking, cleaning, working, raising kids, running a household. To get any kind of writing done I had to squeeze it in between bath time and washing dishes. It was so stressful and I lost the joy to write.
When I made the decision there was no way I could quit a second time, I knew I had to make big, serious changes to my mindset and my daily schedule. Instead of being at the mercy of what the day may or may not bring, I took control of my time so that I could write every day and enjoy it again.
By assessing my lifestyle and my inner qualities, I was able to get back to writing whenever I wanted to write. I finished books I’d thought were dead in the water and even began my own story coaching business.
I want you to feel the same joy, confidence, and control that I did when I finally established a writing routine I could depend on. You will learn the strategies I designed to help me identify a writing routine that I could commit to so that I could complete any writing project I wanted.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed learning and taking Kate’s course. It has motivated me to keep writing. Her encouragement in the Facebook group is invigorating to me. I used to work with a writing coach and although I loved the “homework” pieces he assigned, I never made any progress on my own writing. It's different with Kate's course. Kate is totally invested in all of her students – and I must add how thoughtful she is.”

My mini-course will help you organize your daily schedule so that you can find a block of time where you can write without stress, guilt, or constant interruptions.
Inside the mini-course you’ll learn:
- How tracking your time for a whole week will help you identify the gaps in your day where you might be missing valuable writing opportunities.
- Why journaling your progress and your mindset every day will become your secret weapon to getting tough with yourself and help you “just say no” to tempting distractions.
- The value of understanding your purpose as a writer and how that directly impacts your daily writing routine.
ABOUT YOUR WRITING COACH
I graduated UNH with a dual degree in English and Psychology. I began my editing career in Denver, CO at a small publishing company.
After my second child was born, I pursued freelance editing so I could be a stay-at-home mama. Over the following twelve years, my business evolved into teaching creative writing to adults and children.
I write fiction at four in the morning (gasp)--but it's the best time of day for me for writing without interruptions! My work can be found in Wayfaring, Compass Points: Stories from Seacoast Authors, The Greensilk Journal, Wolf Warriors, Concord Monitor, Northeast Wolf Coalition, and my coaching website katejohnstonauthor.com.
In 2018, I compiled and edited a collection of short stories written by some of my creative writing students. Dare to be a Voice is available on Amazon, and is part of my fundraising efforts to raise awareness for endangered species.
Clients include Amy Makechnie, author of The Unforgettable Guinevere St. Clair (Simon and Schuster); Carrie Rubin, author of The Bone Curse (Science Thrillers Media), Eating Bull (Science Thrillers Media), and The Seneca Scourge (Whiskey Creek Press); Corey Boucher, author Earn More. Save More. Invest More; K. L. Schwengel, author of Darkness & Light Trilogy.
Here's my basic mantra: All a writer needs to get started on their journey are belief, determination, and a little bit of ferocity.
You up for kicking your writing dream into reality?
Then let's get going!
Lesson One: How to make time to write every day
I’ll help you stop feeling like you don’t have enough time to write. I’ll walk you through creating a personalized 7-day time tracker and daily goal planner so that you can narrow down 15-60 minutes every day to write.
Lesson Two: Learn how to put your writing strengths to work for you
I’ll teach you how you can learn all about your writer self by tapping into your “natural writing forces”--your own brand of strengths, habits, moods, triggers, challenges that impact your writing goals. We’ll deep-dive into your specific lifestyle and take actionable steps toward creating a writing routine that works for you so that you can finish the project of your dreams.
Lesson Three: Nail down the clarity on your project
Learn why having clarity on your writing project can help you stay on track with the goals you set in lesson one, while also applying your strengths and gifts you learned in lesson two. I’ll teach you how to zero in on your purpose as a writer and the purpose of your project and how you can use those pieces to set up long-term goals.
